Bereavement Services

Grieving the death of a loved one is a unique process for each person, with no prescribed path or timetable. Gilchrist Hospice Care helps those left behind to better understand and cope with their grief and to work through the process in their own individual ways.

For 24 months after the death of a minor child, our licensed masters-trained grief counselors and specially trained volunteers provide grief support to family and friends of our patients as well as to anyone in the community grieving a loss. Most services are available without charge.

The following specialized bereavement services are available for children:

  • Individual sessions for children with master's prepared, licensed counselors with experience in the unique needs of children
  • Assessment and intervention by our Certified Child Life Specialist, with expertise in helping children cope with illness and grief
  • Education and coaching for families in addressing the needs of grieving children
  • Workshops tailored to the unique needs of children, such as Understanding Grief: Just for Teens, Movies that Move Us, and Legacies of Our Loved Ones
  • A special track of workshops for middle and high school students at the annual Wellness Day
  • Community workshops and educational sessions with school guidance counselors on helping grieving children
