Visits to Tanzania

Gilchrist has established a deep collaborative relationship with Nkoaranga since 2009. In October 2010 we sent an initial team of four to Tanzania to learn about their program; February 2012 we sent an additional team of four clinicians for a follow up visit; and in April 2013 we brought three of the staff of Nkoaranga to Hunt Valley to learn about hospice in the United States. We anticipate sending another team of four in September 2014.

Gilchrist visits Nkoaranga

In order for us to have a better understanding of the people and the region, our groups spend time visiting patients in their homes with Nkoaranga's medical workers and volunteers, visiting orphanages, attending meeting at the hospital and attending religious services.

Nkoaranga visits Gilchrist

While the Nkoaranga team visited Gilchrist they learned about how hospice care is provided in the United States. They visited patients and their families at Gilchrist Center in Towson, in homes and facilities. They shared their story through presenting in front of audiences of Gilchrist and GBMC staff and volunteers as well as interested community members.
