Medical expenses for the vast majority of Gilchrist Hospice Care adult patients are covered by Medicare and the vast majority of our youngest patients are covered by Medicaid. Once a patient is referred for hospice services, all care related to the terminal diagnosis – including clinical visits, prescriptions and medical equipment and supplies – are covered by a set, per-day rate through the Medicare Hospice Benefit. All care unrelated to the diagnosis will continue to be covered through the traditional Medicare program.

Most private insurers include similar hospice coverage in their plans; however unlike Medicare, these plans may also include co-pays or deductibles or patients may be subject to life-time maximums. Patients who may have reached their life-time maximums or are uninsured and unable to pay for care may qualify for Gilchrist’s financial assistance program.

Gilchrist remains committed to providing quality, specialized care for any patient with a life-limiting diagnosis in Central Maryland who seeks out hospice services, regardless of insurance limitations or ability to pay.
