Grieving the death of a loved one is a unique process for each person, with no prescribed path or timetable. Gilchrist Hospice Care helps those left behind to better understand and cope with their grief as they move forward toward hope and healing.

After the death of an adult loved one, our licensed masters-trained grief counselors and specially trained volunteers provide grief support to family and friends of our patients as well as to anyone in the community grieving a loss. Services are available for both adults and children, most without charge. 

We offer the following for adults:

  • Short term grief counseling by masters prepared, licensed professionals who are certified in Thanatology
  • Grief support groups
  • Educational Workshops
  • Spring Retreat
  • Wellness Seminar
  • Quarterly educational mailing, Coping with Life after the Loss of a Loved One
  • Memorial Services
  • Community education on coping with grief and loss

specialized services for children:

  • Individual sessions for children with master's prepared, licensed counselors with experience in the unique needs of children
  • Assessment and intervention by a Certified Child Life Specialist, with expertise in helping children cope with illness and grief
  • Education and coaching for families in addressing the needs of grieving children
  • Community workshops and educational sessions with school guidance counselors on helping grieving children
